2. Raise transmission into position aligning main drive
gear shaft with clutch disc hub. Guide pins screws
into transmission mounting bolt holes in clutch hous­
ing will help keep transmission in alignment with
clutch during installation. Move transmission toward
clutch housing, turning main drive gear as necessary
to allow splines of drive gear to engage splines in
clutch disc hub.
3. Remove guide pins if used; then install transmission
to clutch housing bolts and lock washers.

4. Connect hand brake (if used) at transmission as de­
scribed in "HAND BRAKE" (SEC. 5).
5. Connect propeller shaft to output yoke as described
in PROPELLER SHAFT (SEC. 4).
. Connect speedometer cable to driven gear adapter at

rear of transmission. Tighten connector firmly.
7. On transmissions
equipped with remote controls,
connect control rods to levers.

9. Install cover in cab floor if previously removed.

3rd and 4th shift rail (17).
2. Remove 3rd and 4th shift rail (17) and shift fork (23)}
driving shift rail out through welch plug opening in
cover forcing out welch plug.
3. Remove detent ball (20) and spring (19).
4. Using #2 easy out (fig. 3K), remove roll pin (25)
from
st and
nd shift lug (26).

5. With #2 easy out (fig. 3K), remove roll pin (5) from
st and
nd shift fork (

. Using hammer and drift, drive 1st and 2nd shift rail

(27) out of cover (2) forcing out welch plug. Remove
shift rail (27), 1st and 2nd shift lug (26), and 1st and
nd shift fork (
).

7. Remove detent ball (28) and spring (29).
. Using #2 easy out, remove roll pins

reverse shift lug assembly (12) and shift fork (7).
9. With hammer and drift, drive reverse shift rail (9)
out of cover (2) forcing out welch plug. Remove re­
verse shift lug assembly (

10. Remove detent ball (13) and spring (14). Remove two
shift rail interlock plungers (15 and 18) and interlock
pin (16) from cover (
).

11. Using a screw driver, remove retaining ring (11)
from reverse shift lug assembly (12).

1. Position detent spring (29) and ball (28) in bore of
cover (

2. Partially insert 1st and 2nd speed shift rail (27) into
bore of cover (2). Position 1st and 2nd speed shift
fork (

3. Push 1st and 2nd speed shift rail (27) the remaining
distance (to neutral position) into cover and install
new lock pins (5 and 25).
NOTE:
Tapered end of pins go in first.
4. Install reverse shift plunger spring (22) and lug
plunger (21) in bore of reverse shift lug (12). Com­
press plunger and install retaining clip (
5. Position detent spring (14) and ball (13) in bore of
cover (

. Partially insert reverse shift rail (9) into bore of

cover (2). Position reverse shift fork (7) and reverse
shift lug (12) on rail (9).
7. Push reverse shift rail (9) the remaining distance (to
neutral position) into cover (

. Install two rail interlock plungers (15 and 18) in

9. Position rail interlock pin (16) in 3rd and 4th shift

10. Install detent spring (19) and ball (20) in bore of
cover (

11. Partially insert 3rd and 4th shift rail (17) in bore of
