vehicles.
This section covers the removal and installation of
engine assemblies; the removal, installation and adjust­
ment of some sub-assemblies and replacement of some
components. For service to all components and sub-
assemblies (after removal) and removal of some sub-
assemblies, refer to Section
Overhaul Manual.
COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND ADJUSTMENT
Engine Assemblies
Removal
1. Disconnect battery cables and drain cooling system.
2. Remove the air cleaner.
3. Perform the following preliminary operations:
ON CE 10-20-30, KE 10-20 SERIES:
• Remove the hood as outlined in Section 11.
• Remove the radiator and shroud as outlined in
Section 13.
ON CE 40-50-60, KE 10-20, ME 50-60,
SE 50-60 SERIES:
• Remove the front end sheet metal (with hood and
radiator attached) as outlined in Section 11.

Because of the inter changeability and similarity of
many engines, engine sub-assemblies and parts regard­
less of which passenger vehicle they are used in, typical
illustrations and procedures are used (except where
specific illustrations or procedures are necessary to
clarify the operation).
bench operations are used, most single operations, when
not part of a general overhaul, should be performed (if
practical) with the engine in the vehicle.
ON GE 10-20 SERIES:
• Remove engine splash shields.
• Disconnect neutral safety switch wire at connector
(Powerglide).
• Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses at
radiator.
ON TE 40-50-60 SERIES:
• Remove the radiator, radiator support and shroud
as outlined in Section 13.
• Disconnect shaft linkage at control island.
• Disconnect choke cable at carburetor.
• Disconnect emergency brake cable at emergency
brake and retaining brackets.
