FRONT SUSPENSION 3-10
Installation
1. Place stabilizer in position on frame and install
frame brackets over bushings. Install nuts and bolts
loosely.
2. Install brackets over bushings at lower control arm
location.
Be sure brackets are positioned properly
over bushings. Tighten all nuts and bolts securely.
Springs
Removal
1. Raise front of vehicle and place jack stands under
frame, allowing control arms to hang free.
2. Position floor jack under lower control arm at spring
pad location. Raise control arm until the coil spring
is compressed.
3. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Disconnect shock
absorber at lower end.
4. Remove cotter pin from lower ball stud and loosen
stud nut until top of nut is slightly above top of the
stud.
5. Install Ball Stud Remover J-8806 (fig. 19), position­
ing large cup end of the tool over the upper ball stud
nut and piloting the threaded end of tool on end of the
lower ball stud. Extend bolt from J-8806 tool to
loosen lower ball stud in steering knuckle. When the
stud is loosened remove the tool and then remove nut
from the lower stud.
NOTE:
If a fairly heavy torque on the tool bolt
does not break the lower ball joint loose from
the steering knuckle then, with the tool still in­
stalled, rap the steering knuckle boss sharply
with a hammer to shock the stud loose.
. ON MODEL CP10 ONLY - Remove the front spring

from the vehicle by slowly lowering the floor jack
that is positioned under the lower control arm.
7. ON MODELS C20 AND C30 ONLY -
a. Remove cotter pin from upper control arm ball
stud and loosen stud nut until bottom surface of
nut is slightly below end of stud.

b. Loosen upper ball stud in steering knuckle, using
Tool J-8806 positioned as shown in Figure 19.
Remove the nut from the ball stud.
c. Swing the upper control arm up and away from the
steering knuckle, supporting the arm in a raised
position using an approximately 4" thick wood
block placed on top of the suspension cross­
member.
d. Lift the knuckle off the lower ball stud, tilting the
assembly as necessary to permit the brake back­
ing plate to clear the end of the lower control
arm.
Lift the knuckle assembly and suspend it
from the upper control arm by loosely installing
the ball stud nut.
e. Remove the front spring from the vehicle by
slowly lowering the floor jack that is positioned
under the lower control arm.
Installation
1. Position a floor jack under the lower control arm
spring pad and properly locate the spring in its seat
on the lower arm, then slowly raise the jack while
carefully guiding the spring into its upper seat, con­
tinue to compress the spring until the ball joints and
shock absorbers can be reconnected. Torque lower
ball joint attaching nut on CP10 models 120 lb. ft. and
215 lb. ft. on C20-30 models. On C20-30, torque
upper ball joint attaching nut to
Ball Joint—Inspection
Uppeir
1. Raise vehicle and support on frame to allow control
arms to hang free. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Support lower control arm with adjustable jackstand
and disconnect upper ball stud from steering knuckle.
3. Reinstall nut on ball stud and measure torque re­
quired to rotate stud with torque wrench.
5-10 lb. ft. If torque is not within these lim its, re­
place ball joint.
