CLUTCH/GEARSHIFT LINKAGE
SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
• The clutch system can be serviced with the engine in the frame.
• DOT 4 brake fluid is used for the hydraulic clutch and is referred to as clutch fluid in this section. Do not use other types of
fluid as they are not compatible.
• Spilled clutch (brake) fluid will severely damage the plastic parts and painted surfaces. It is also harmful to some rubber
parts. Be careful whenever you remove the reservoir cap; make sure the reservoir is horizontal first.
• Never allow contaminants (dirt, water, etc.) to get into an open reservoir.
• Once the hydraulic system has been opened, the system must be bled.
• Always use fresh DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed container when servicing the system. Do not mix different types of fluid
as they may not be compatible.
• Engine oil viscosity and level and the use of oil additives have an effect on clutch disengagement. Oil additives of any kind
are specifically not recommended. When the clutch does not disengage or the motorcycle creeps with the clutch
disengaged, inspect the engine oil viscosity and level before servicing the clutch system.
