SUSPENSION

Loose, worn or damaged suspension parts impair
motorcycle stability and control. Repair or replace
any damaged components before riding. Riding
a
motorcycle with faulty suspension increases your
risk of an accident and possible injury.
FRONT SUSPENSION INSPECTION
Check the action of the forks by operating the front
brakes and compressing the front suspension sever-
al times.
Check the entire assembly for signs of leaks, dam-
age or loose fasteners.
Replace damaged components which cannot be
repaired.
Tighten all nuts and bolts.
Refer to section 13 for fork service.
FRONT SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENT
SPRING PRELOAD
Turn the preload adjuster counterclockwise to
reduce the spring preload, and turn it clockwise to
increase the preload.
To set the standard position, align the 4th groove
on the adjuster with the top surface of the fork cap.
REBOUND DAMPING
Turn the rebound damping adjuster counter-
clockwise to reduce the rebound damping force,
and turn it clockwise to increase the rebound
damping force.
To set the standard position, turn the adjuster
clockwise until it stops, then turn it counter-
clockwise approx. 1 turn. Align the punch mark on
the adjuster with the reference mark.
REAR SUSPENSION INSPECTION
Check the action of the shock absorber by com-
pressing it several times.
Check the entire shock absorber assembly for signs
of leaks, damage or loose fasteners.
Replace damaged components which cannot be
repaired.
Tighten all nuts and bolts.
Refer to section 14 for shock absorber service.
