Front Wheel Beari ngs

Removal

1 .
Remove the front wheel <see page 15- 10>.
Do not allow the wheel to rest on the brake d iscs, as this
may damage the d iscs. S u pport the wheel o n wooden
blocks, equa l ly spaced a round the rim, such that the
brake discs are raised above the g round.

Place the wheel on wooden
damage to the brake discs.
3.
Remove and d iscard the seals and the bearing circlip.
Always wear eye, hand and face protection when using
a hammer and d rift. Use of a hammer and drift can
cause bearings to fra gment.

suitable protective apparel is not worn.
To prevent wheel damage and to aid bearing removal,
always apply force even ly on b oth sides of the bea ring
to prevent
it from
'tippi ng'
Application of uneven force will lead to difficulty in
removing the bea ring and to a damaged wheel.
4.
Using a suita ble pin punch, through the centre of the
wheel, d rift out the wheel bearings. Collect the
centre sleeve.

Inspection

O n ly remove raised witness ma rks from with i n the
wheel. Rem oval of material below any ra ised a reas will
reduce the level of i nterference between the wheel and
the beari ngs. Loss of interference could ca use the
bearing to become loose i n the wheel leading to loss of
motorcycle control and a n accident.

Exam i n e t h e wheel for a n y raised witness ma rks
caused by the rem oval process. Remove a ny such
marks with fine emery paper o r a gentle file.

Installation

Note:
Refer to the chart below for the correct tool
and
tool
face when
Bearings
are
inserted
draw-bolt acting on the insertion tool. A
support tool is located on the Ol;)posite side
of the wheel to the insertion tool and as the
bolt is tightened, the bearing is drawn into
the wheel.
Insert bearings with the marked or shielded
side facing outwards and always fit a new
bearing circlip and seals.
