EMS Main Relay Circuit

Pinpoint Tests
Test
1
Ensure ignition has been switched off for O K
greater than one minute. Identify EMS
Main Relay on the harness.
Check that relay operates when the ignition Faulty
is switched ON.
2 Check fuse box Fuse 6 integrity
3 Check cable for short circuit:
- ECM pin A06 to ground
- EMS Main relay pin 3 to ground
4 Check cable and terminal integrity:
- ECM pin A06
- ECM pin B 1 5
- EMS Main Relay pin 1
- EMS Main Relay pin 2
- EMS Main Relay pin 3
- EMS Main Relay pin 5
5 Check cable for short circuit:
- ECM pin B 1 5 to ground
6 Check cable continuity:
- ECM pin A06 to EMS Relay pin 5
- ECM pin B 15 to Relay pin 1
- EMS Main Relay pin 2 to ground
- EMS Main Relay pin 3 to Fuse box Fuse 6
7 Reconnect harness, clear fault code. Switch O K
ignition off for longer than one minute.
Switch ignition on and check that the EMS
main relay operates. Start engine as final
check

Action
Note that the starter motor cannot be
powered if a main relay fault exists.
Ensure the EMS main relay connector
is secure. Proceed to pinpoint test 1 :

Disconnect ECM and proceed to test 4
Disconnect ECM and proceed to test 4
Disconnect ECM and proceed to test 3
Replace Fuse 6 a n d proceed to test 4
Locate and rectify wiring fault, re p lace Fuse 6
and proceed to test 7
Disconnect Main Relay a n d proceed to test 5
Rectify fault, proceed to test 7
Proceed to test 6
Locate and rectify wiring fault, proceed to
test 7
Replace E M S Main Relay and proceed to
test 7
Locate and rectify wiring fault, proceed to
test 7
Action complete - quit test
