Rectifier/Regulator

I nterna l ly the rectifier/reg u lator consists of three diodes, one between each input and the positive terminal, and three Field
Effect Transistors <FETs), one between each input and the g round terminal.
As the voltage of the AC signal from the generator rises, the voltage controller switches the FETs to avoid over voltage on
the output.
The diodes and FETs can be checked using a multimeter on D I O D E setting. Disconnect the two electrical connectors from
the rectifier/regulator and check the readings as indicated below.
Note:
This test does not check for voltage regulation.

- Positive (+) probe to rectifier black socket pin 1 to :
Negative (-) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 1
Negative (-) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 2

Check FET fun ction forward bias:
- Negative (-) probe to rectifier black socket pin 3 to:
Positive (+) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 1
Positive (+) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 2
Positive (+) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 3

Check d iodes reverse bias:
- Negative (-) probe to rectifier black socket pin 1 to:
Positive (+) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 1
Positive (+) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 2
Positive (+) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 3
- Positive (+) probe to rectifier black socket pin 3 to:
Negative (-) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 1
Negative (-) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 2
Negative (-) probe to rectifier g rey socket pin 3

Check the cond ition of fuse 1 1 :-
Check the condition of the battery.
Test the battery using the
BatteryMate 1 5 0-9. Refer to the
instructions suppl ied with the
BatteryMate 1 5 0-9.
Ensure the battery is serviceable:-
Discon nect the black and the g rey
connectors from the rectifier/
reg u lator a n d p roceed to pinpoint
test 1 :-
Test the alternato r stator (see
page 17-22>
