Tyre Wear/Wheel Inspection

As the tyre tread wears down, the tyre becomes more
susceptible to puncture and fa ilure. lt is estimated that
90% of all tyre fai l u res occu r d u ring the last 10% of tread
life (90% worn). lt is false economy and unsafe to use
tyres u ntil they a re worn to their minimum.
All tyres a re fitted with tread wea r indicators. When the
tyre beco mes worn down as far as the top of a tread wear
indicator, the tyre is worn beyond its service life and m ust
be replaced.

1. Tread wear indicator
In accordance with the scheduled maintenance chart,
measu re the depth of the tread with a depth gauge, and
replace any tyre that has worn to, o r beyond the
minimum allowa ble tread depth.
I nspect wheels for cracks, splits and kerb damage. Always
replace wheels that a re suspected of having become
damaged.
Operation with excessively worn tyres is haza rdous and
will adversely affect traction, stabil ity and handling which
may lead to loss of control or an accident.
When tyres become punctured, leakage is often very
slow. Always inspect tyres very closely for punctures.
Check the tyres for cuts, embedded nails or other sharp
objects.
Check the rims for dents or defo rmation a n d spokes for
looseness and damage. Operation with damaged or
defective wheels, spokes or tyres is dangerous a n d loss
of control o r a n accident could result.

I mportant Tyre Information

Al l Triu m ph motorcycles a re careful ly and extensively
tested in a range of riding conditions to ensure that the
most effective tyre combinations a re a pproved for use on
each model. lt is essentia l that approved tyres and inner
tubes (if installed> fitted i n approved com bi nations, a re
used when purchasing replacement items. The use of
non-a pproved tyres and i n ner tubes, or approved tyres
and inner tubes in non-approved combinations, may lead
to motorcycle instability, loss of control and a n accident.
On models fitted with ABS, different wheel speeds,
caused by non-approved tyres, can affect the fun ction of
the ABS computer.
See the Specification section for details of approved tyre
and inner tube combi nations. Always have tyres and inner
tubes fitted a n d balanced by you r a uthorised Triu m p h
dealer w h o h a s t h e necessa ry training and skills t o ensure
safe, effective fitment.
If a tyre or inner tube sustains a puncture, the tyre and
inner tube m ust be replaced. Fai l u re to replace a
punctured tyre a n d inner tube, or operation with a
repaired tyre can lead to instability, loss of control or a n
accident.
N ever use an in ner tube to repai r a punctured tyre. The
rough surface inside the tyre ca n chafe the tube leading
to instability, ra pid deflation, loss of control and a n
accident.
