In the previous example:
The subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 applies to the remote end of
the PPP link.
The ppp_ncp parameter must be set to ipcp in order for the
filters (defined next) to operate; filters apply to IP
packets only.
The two filters at the end of the dial-out entry prevent RIP
updates (generated every 30 seconds) from being considered
activity. Without these filters, RIP updates could activate a dial-
out connection that might (and should) otherwise
time out.
