3. Use the crank bore codes and crank journal codes
to select the appropriate replacement bearings
from the following table.
NOTE:
. Color code is on the edge of the bearing.
. When using bearing halves of different colors. it
does not matter which color is used in the top or
bottom.

Rod Bearing Clearance lnspection
1 . R e m o v e t h e o i l p u m p ( s e e p a g e 8 - 9 ) .
2. Bemove the baffle plates (see step 6 on page 7-12).
3. Remove the connecting rod cap and bearing half.
4 . C l e a n t h e c r a n k s h a f t r o d j o u r n a l a n d b e a r i n g h a l f
with a clean shop towel.
5. Place plastigage across the rod journal.
6 . R e i n s t a l l t h e b e a r i n g h a l f a n d c a p , a n d t o r q u e t h e
b o l t s t o 2 0 N . m ( 2 . 0 k g f . m , 1 4 l b f . f t ) - l 9 0 " .
NOTE: Do not rotate the crankshaft during
inspection.
7 . R e m o v e t h e r o d c a p a n d b e a r i n g h a l f , a n d m e a s u r e
the widest part of the plastigage.
