Installing the RTU
Note
Protecting the battery modules from slipping on the DIN rail
When mounting in the protective housing that can be ordered as an accessory, there are two
end retainers that are fitted to both ends of the group of devices. The end retainers prevent
the RTU and battery module from separating under mechanical load.
If you do not mount the RTU or the battery module in a protective housing from the
accessories program, prevent the battery module from slipping with a suitable clamping
device, e.g. a Siemens end retainer 8WA1808.
When using the device in the areas of application ATEX or IECEx, note the information on
the DIN rail being used in section Notices on use in hazardous areas according to ATEX /
IECEx (Page 53).
● If you use a battery module, start at step 1.
● If you do not use a battery module, start at step 2.

Procedure for installation
Execution

Remove the covers on the left-hand side of the
RTU.
When using more than one battery module remove
the covers of all battery modules with the exception
of the cover of the battery module on the far left.
1. Insert the tip of a slotted screwdriver in the gap
above the cover.
2. Lever the cover carefully out of its holder.
3. In every battery module you use insert the sup-
plied 12-pin adapter in the right socket.
Note:
At this time do not put any batteries in the bat-
tery modules. See section Commissioning and
starting up the RTU (Page 66) for information
on this.

Secure the DIN rail in the protective housing.

Snap the RTU and the battery modules to the left
of the RTU onto the DIN rail.

Push the battery modules (left) and RTU (right)
together carefully until the side contacts between
the RTU and all battery modules are fully closed.

Recommendation: Store the covers
in a safe place in case they need to
be used later.
Use a 35 mm DIN rail.
