Installing a standard-form-factor expansion card

Install a standard-form-factor expansion card to expand the I/O capabilities of
your blade server.

To install a standard-form-factor expansion card, complete the following steps:

1. Read "Safety" on page v and the "Installation guidelines" on page 239.
2. Shut down the operating system, turn off the blade server, and remove the
blade server from the BladeCenter unit. See "Removing the blade server from
a BladeCenter unit" on page 241.
3. Carefully lay the blade server on a flat, static-protective surface, with the
cover side up.
4. Open and remove the blade server cover. See "Removing the blade server
cover" on page 244.
5. If a drive is connected to the SAS connector, remove the drive and the tray.
See "Removing a SAS hard disk drive" on page 248 and "Removing the hard
disk drive tray" on page 270.
If a SAS drive is connected to the SAS connector, you cannot install a
standard-form-factor expansion card.
If the SAS hard disk drive that is connected to SAS connector 1 is part of a
RAID array, delete the array before you remove the drive. When you delete
the array, the array configuration information is removed, but no data is
deleted.
