Documentation
Before installing the BladeCenter JS20
Type 8842, you should have completed
the following procedures:
• Installed and configured the rack according
to the documentation that came with the rack.
•
Installed and configured
the BladeCenter unit
into the rack. See the documentation provided
with the BladeCenter unit to install the unit
into the rack.
• Supplied 200 - 240 V ac to the BladeCenter unit.
Install options in the blade server:
• Drives
• Memory modules
• I/O expansion card
See Chapter 7 for more information.
Make sure that the BladeCenter management
module and the Ethernet switch module firmware
support the Serial Over LAN (SOL) feature.
See the
Serial Over LAN Setup Guide
for more information.
Install the blade server in the BladeCenter unit.
See Chapter 3 for more information.
Establish an SOL session with the blade server. See the
Serial Over LAN Setup Guide
for more information.
Install the operating system.
See Chapter 4 for more information.
Install additional applications according to the
instructions provided with the applications.
The blade server is now
ready to use. Be sure to

    The Myrinet Cluster Expansion Card for IBM Eserver BladeCenter comes with a cable for connection to the system board of a compatible device. However, the cable is not used in the BladeCenter JS20 Type 8842. Therefore, when you install a Myrinet Cluster Expansion Card for IBM Eserver BladeCenter into a BladeCenter JS20 Type 8842, do not connect the cable from the I/O expansion card to the system board.

To obtain a new system-board assembly for the blade server, you must call the IBM Support Center to report the original system-board assembly as a failed part. The IBM Support Center team will evaluate the problem and determine whether the blade server requires a replacement system-board assembly or other service.
