TROUBLESHOOTING AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
5. Connect battery cables, positive (+) cable first, and tighten hardware to 12 ft-lb (16 N·m).
6. Using a multimeter set to 200 ohms, place the two probes onto the two normally closed (NC) terminals
on the relay (Figure 11-43, Page 11-40). With the key switch in the OFF position, the reading should
show continuity. Insert the key and turn the key switch to the ON position. The reading should be no con-
tinuity. If either reading is incorrect, replace the relay.
7. Disconnect the battery cables as instructed. See WARNING "To avoid unintentionally starting..." in
General Warning, Section 10, Page 10-1.
8. Remove the tape and reconnect the wires to the relay. Install the electrical component box cover.
9. Connect the 6-gauge white wire to the F2 post on the starter/generator.
10. Connect battery cables, positive (+) cable first, and tighten hardware to 12 ft-lb (16 N·m).
See Figure 10-1, Section 10, Page 10-3. Coat terminals with Battery Terminal Protector Spray (CCI P/
N 1014305) to minimize corrosion.
TEST PROCEDURE 30 – RELAY (STARTER AND NEUTRAL LOCKOUT CIRCUITS)
See General Warning, Section 10, Page 10-1.
The relay (present on key-start vehicles only) is located in the electrical component box. See Relay Removal,
Section 12, Page 12-28.
1. Disconnect the battery cables as instructed. See WARNING "To avoid unintentionally starting..." in
General Warning, Section 10, Page 10-1.
2. Disconnect the 6-gauge white wire from the F2 post on the starter/generator (Figure 11-42,
Page 11-40). Cover the terminal end of the wire with electrical tape to prevent electrical contact.
3. Remove the cover from the electrical component box.
4. Disconnect the two brown wires and one green wire from the normally open (NO) terminals on the relay.
Cover the wire terminal ends with tape to prevent electrical contact (Figure 11-44, Page 11-42).
5. Connect battery cables, positive (+) cable first, and tighten hardware to 12 ft-lb (16 N·m).
6. Using a multimeter set to 200 ohms, place the two probes onto the two normally open (NO) terminals on
the relay (Figure 11-44, Page 11-42). With the key switch to the OFF position, the reading should show
no continuity. Turn the key switch to the START position. The reading should be continuity. If either read-
ing is incorrect, replace the relay.
7. Disconnect the battery cables as instructed. See WARNING "To avoid unintentionally starting..." in
General Warning, Section 10, Page 10-1.
8. Connect the wires to the relay.
