TROUBLESHOOTING AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
TEST PROCEDURE 17 – KILL LIMIT SWITCH
See General Warning, Section 10, Page 10-1.
The kill limit switch for pedal-start vehicles is located inside the electrical component box. The accelerator kill
switch is the lower of the two limit switches and has a white/black wire and black wire connected to it.
The kill limit switch for key-start vehicles is located inside the electrical component box and has a brown, red
and orange wire connected to it.
1. Disconnect the battery cables as instructed. See WARNING "To avoid unintentionally starting..." in
General Warning, Section 10, Page 10-1.
2. Check for proper wiring and tight connections.
3. Disconnect the wires from the limit switch and test the limit switch for continuity.
• For pedal-start vehicles: Place the red (+) probe of the multimeter on the common (COM) terminal
(white/black wire) of the limit switch. Place the black (–) probe on the normally open (NO) terminal
(black wire) of the limit switch. Without the lever pressed, the reading should be no continuity. Press the
lever, and the reading should be continuity. If either reading is incorrect, replace the limit switch
(Figure 11-35, Page 11-34).
• For key-start vehicles: Place the red (+) probe of the multimeter on the common (COM) terminal
(orange wire) of the limit switch. Place the black (–) probe on the normally open (NO) terminal (brown
wire) of the limit switch. Without the lever pressed, the reading should be no continuity. Press the lever,
and the reading should be continuity. If either reading is incorrect, replace the limit switch
(Figure 11-36, Page 11-34).
4. Connect wires to limit switch and check for tight connections.
