5.3 Configuring the PLC
When creating a SINUMERIK MCU in the TIA Portal, all subcomponents and the PC system
are simultaneously created.
Ethernet is used for the internal communication between the various components.
Precondition
● A project is open in the TIA Portal.
● The project view is active.
Procedure
To insert an MCU into the project, follow these steps:
1. Click "Add new device" in the project tree.
2. Click the "Controllers" button.
3. In the folder structure under "Controller", expand the corresponding SINUMERIK device
family and then select the MCU 1720.
The firmware version of the MCU is displayed in the "Version" drop-down list.
4. Confirm your selection with "OK".
Result
The SINUMERIK MCU 1720 is created as new device.
Note
You can connect distributed PROFINET I/O devices at interface X150 or X160.
PROFINET I/O devices, which are to be accessed by the NCK, must be connected to X150.
To exchange distributed data, assign the process image PIP NCK to the I/O device.
