When the router is not properly performing these functions, follow these steps:
1.
View the routing table:
ProCurve# show ip route
The table should include routes to all other subnets in the router's area.
Unless this is a total stub area, it should also contain route(s) to an ABR(s)
for inter-area traffic and a default route for external traffic.
Make a list of the destinations for which the table should have an entry,
but does not.
Figure 13-36 displays an example of a stub router's routing table.
2.
If the router only lacks routes for networks in other areas, move to step 7.
If the router also lacks routes to networks in its own area, it is not fully
synchronizing its database with other routers in its area. This could be
because:
•
OSPF has not been enabled on one or more of its interfaces
•
an interface has been placed in the wrong area
•
the MTU on the interface does not match its neighbor's
•
an interface has not been configured with the correct authentication
information
•
connecting routers are not running OSPF as they should
