7. Because only the Berlin area includes a wide range of networks, network
administrators decide that it is only necessary to configure a summary for
this area.

To routers in other areas, the Berlin router will advertise a single link to
area 0, which includes many variable length subnets in the 192.168.0.0 /17
range. On the other hand, the Berlin router will advertise each individual
subnet in areas 2, 3, and 4 to routers in other areas.
8. Configure the router to advertise the default route for external traffic to
other routers and routing switches at the Berlin site. (The router will also
advertise this route to the WAN routers at other sites; however, as long as
you manually configure a default route on each router to its own ISP, each
site will use its own Internet connection rather than Berlin's.)

9. If the primary ADSL connection to Mannheim should fail, the persistent
backup connection will immediately become active. However, in order for
the router to forward traffic across this connection, its routing table must
include routes that use the backup interface. Configure floating static
routes to the Mannheim network through the backup interface. These
routes must have a higher administrative distance than OSPF routes so
that they will only appear when the primary connection fails.

Mannheim

The Mannheim ProCurve Secure Router connects networks in stub area 2 to
the ABR on the network backbone. This router is responsible for advertising
the two local networks to the ABR and for receiving advertisements for
networks in other areas.
Mannheim can connect to the branch offices at Dublin and Prague through
the Frame Relay network, using Berlin as a transit. However, Mannheim has
its own ISDN connections to the branch offices. Static routes through demand
interfaces direct traffic over the ISDN connections. Because static routes take
precedence over learned routes, the Mannheim router will use its ISDN
connections to reach the branch offices rather than the Frame Relay network.
