Symptom
Keys do not work.

Symptom
An installed drive does not
work or is not recognized by
the system.
Software does not boot from
the fixed disk drive.
If you are having trouble with your keyboard, locate the problem
in Table 7–4.
Possible Cause
Hold Screen key is active.
Hold Screen light is on.
Keyboard cable is loose or not
connected.
Keyboard has failed.
If you are having trouble with a SCSI device, such as an internal
drive, or an expansion box, locate the problem in Table 7–5.
Possible Cause
Two SCSI identifiers are set
to the same number.
You turned on the system
unit before you turned on
your expansion box.
Loose cables.
Defective drive.
A problem exists with the
fixed disk.
Using the Troubleshooting Tables
Corrective Action
Press the Hold Screen key to
release hold on screen.
Check the keyboard cable at
both ends.
Replace the keyboard. If the
problem persists, contact your
Digital service representative.
Corrective Action
Enter the
show device
command as Chapter 4
describes. If a drive is not
recognized, reset each SCSI ID
to a unique number.
Turn off the entire system; turn
equipment back on beginning
with the expansion box.
Check to make sure all cables
are connected.

information on running
diagnostic tests.
