8. Remove the water pump face plate.

9. Inspect the water pump liner and face plate for grooves and/or rough surfaces.

10. Replace the liner and/or face plate if the grooves (other than sealing grooves) are more than 0.762 mm (0.030 in.) deep.
11. Remove the base gasket.
