56 Chapter 3: Connecting devices to the backplane and to the Matrox Supersight SHB-5520 board

Installing a mass storage device

To install a new hard disk drive or solid state drive (SSD), perform the following:
1. Open the chassis by following the steps explained in Removing the chassis cover,
earlier in this chapter.
2. Remove the drive tray by following the steps explained in Removing the drive-tray,
earlier in this chapter.
3. Slide your mass storage device into one of the empty slots in the hard disk drive bay.
4. Connect the SATA cable connector from the back of the mass storage device to
the backplane or the specified SHB.
5. Connect the SATA LP4 power connector from the mass storage device to one of
the 4-pin peripheral power cables of your Matrox Supersight unit's power supply.
Always use the shortest power cable possible to connect the mass storage device
to your Matrox Supersight backplane. This helps avoid having cables getting
squeezed or worn.
6. Re-install the drive-tray to the chassis by reversing the steps described in the
Removing the drive-tray, earlier in this chapter.
7. Re-install the chassis cover by reversing the steps described in the Removing the
chassis cover, earlier in this chapter.
8. Reconnect the power source to the unit, and restart each Matrox Supersight
SHB-5520.
