40 Chapter 3: Connecting devices to the backplane and to the Matrox Supersight SHB-5520 board
Each PCIe connector on the backplane connects to 8 or 16 PCIe lanes. Each PCIe
board expects to use a specific number of PCIe lanes to run at optimal speed.
To install a PCIe board or an SHB on the backplane:
1. Open the chassis by following the steps explained in Removing the chassis cover
subsection, earlier in this section.
2. If present, remove the retainer guide(s) and associated pressure feet that secure the
currently installed boards in place, by following the steps explained in the
Removing the retainer guide subsection of the Removing the retainer guide section,
earlier in this chapter.
3. Select a slot.
When adding a new SHB or PCIe board into the Matrox Supersight e2 unit, refer
to the Adding boards to the Matrox Supersight e2 unit subsection, later in this
section.
When adding a new PCIe board into the Matrox Supersight Solo unit, refer to
the Adding boards to the Matrox Supersight Solo unit subsection later in this section.
If the board being installed has a PCI shroud (a plastic case that protects the PCIe
connector pins), remove the shroud before the installation. The PCI shroud
hinders air circulation around the PCI connectors.
