34 Chapter 3: Connecting devices to the backplane and to the Matrox Supersight SHB-5520 board

Important

Overview

The Matrox Supersight unit is designed to accommodate hardware additions. The
unit has internal connectors for SHBs, PCIe boards, USB devices, memory
modules, fans, and mass storage devices.
The first step in making internal hardware additions involves removing the chassis
*
cover.
If you remove the chassis cover, you will have access to all the connectors
located on the backplane and the SHB(s). To install an SHB or PCIe board, you
will then have to remove the retainer guide (which holds the boards in place).
❖ Note that, for some hardware additions, you might need to uninstall the drive tray.

Removing the chassis cover

To remove the chassis cover, perform the following:
1. Power down each Matrox Supersight SHB-5520 and turn off the Matrox
Supersight unit.
2. Unplug all 4 Matrox Supersight power cords.
3. Remove the 4 screws from the sides of the Matrox Supersight unit's top panel (see
the following illustration).
*. Be sure to always operate the unit with the cover on. This ensures that the fan prop-
erly removes any heat accumulating in the heat sinks.
