16 Chapter 1: Before you begin
• Networking. Networking comes from the two integrated Gbit Ethernet
interfaces. Each Gbit Ethernet interface supports 10BaseT, 100BaseT, and
1000BaseT, which can be used to connect the Matrox Supersight SHB-5520
board to your network.
• BIOS. The BIOS is stored on an on-board flash memory device. The BIOS acts
as an interface between the operating system and the Matrox Supersight
SHB-5520 board.
The installation of a Matrox Supersight SHB-5520 board can block some PCIe
connectors on the backplane, as each Matrox Supersight SHB-5520 board takes
up to two slots, and partially blocks a third slot. This partially blocked third slot
can still be used, but only by short (1/2 length) PCIe boards or auxiliary I/O
adapter brackets.
