INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the hand−held tester or the OBD II scan tool. Freeze frame data records the
engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help deter-
mine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air−fuel ratio was lean
or rich, as well as other data from the time when a malfunction occurred.
Hand−held tester:

Check STA signal.
PREPARATION:
(a)
Connect the hand−held tester to the DLC3.
(b)
Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand−held tester main switch ON.
(c)
Enter the following menu: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG.
CHECK:
Read the STA signal on the hand−held tester while the starter is operating.
OK:

Check park/neutral position switch or clutch start switch.
(a)
Inspect the park/neutral position switch (A/T)(See page DI−701).
(b)
Inspect the clutch start switch (M/T)(See page CL−2).
