Configuring Active Vault

• The Active Vault feature requires a Active Vault license (see
Licenses
on page 119).
• You can move tapes between Active Vault partitions and standard
partitions via the library user interface without exporting and
importing the tapes (for more information, see
Between Active Vault or AMP and Standard Partitions
Note: Manual movement between library managed partitions and
standard partitions will require inventory reconciliation with
the backup application managing the standard partition.
• Active Vault partitions are library managed partitions. They are not
accessible to hosts.
• Active Vault partitions are composed of unlicensed slots. If the size
of the Active Vault partition exceeds the number of unlicensed slots,
then the partition will be composed of both unlicensed and licensed
slots, or all licensed slots.
• Active Vault partitions may contain I/E station slots, but they are not
required to.
• Active Vault partitions do not contain drives.
• The library can contain multiple Active Vault partitions.
• You can set EDLM policies on Active Vault library managed
partitions (see
Chapter 9, Extended Data Lifecycle
Active Vault policies are configured on standard partitions. The policies
direct host applications to export tapes to Active Vault library managed
partitions. Configuring Active Vault includes these steps:
Step 1: Creating Active Vault Partitions
