1.4 Precautions when Carrying Out FIP

1)
The FIP procedures assume that the MCU PWB is functioning normally. However, if the problem cannot be
corrected using the troubleshooting procedures, the MCU PWB should be replaced and the printer's
operation should be checked again.
2)
When FIP is used to carry out the troubleshooting procedures, an MCU PWB and EP toner cartridge that are
known to be functioning normally should be used to diagnose the cause of the breakdown.
3)
First, check the general conditions mentioned in the FIP under the section marked "Initial Check", as well
as any components forming the main parts or any other related parts listed under "Principle Parts to be
Checked".
4)
When the FIP procedures indicate that the power should be turned ON, this should be done in on-line mode,
unless otherwise specified.
5)
Information concerning the connectors is written as indicated below.
"P/J12" → Indicates that connector P/J12 is connected.
"P12" → Indicates that the plug side of connector P/J12 is disconnected (except when connected directly to
the PWB).
"J12" → Indicates that the jack side of connector P/J12 is disconnected (except when connected directly to
the PWB).
"P/J1-2PIN ↔ P/J3-4PIN" in the FIP indicates that the positive (+) side of the meter should be connected
6)
to pin 2 of P/J1 and the negative (–) side should be connected to pin 4 of P/J3 when making measurements.
7)
"P/J1↔P/J2" in the FIP indicates that all pins on P/J1 and P/J2 should be measured after referring to Chapter
4, 5.WIRING DIAGRAM CONNECTIONS.
When measuring the voltage in the FIP, the negative (–) end (P/J3-4PIN) of "P/J1-2PIN ↔ P/J3-4PIN" is
8)
an SG (or RTN) connection.
If FG and SG are connecting pins, after verifying that there is continuity between FG and SG, the negative
side should be connected to P/J3-4PIN, another SG (or RTN) pin or the frame (FG).
9)
When measuring the voltage, install the EP toner cartridge and paper cassette even if they are not required
and close the front cover (the interlock switch will be set in the on position). Then, turn ON the power supply
and measure the voltage.
10) The values indicated in the FIP should be used as a general guide. If the measured voltage is close to the rated
voltage, it should be adequate.
11) Specific parts which must be removed or operation steps which must be carried out during the FIP
procedures, in order for the diagnosis to be confirmed, are not marked in any particular way.
12) Parts which are considered to be the source of the problem and which must be replaced are indicated as such
in the FIP. Replace those parts, as well as their component parts and confirm the diagnosis.
