Quantum Scalar i40 and Scalar i80
Caution: Scalar i40 libraries with an LTO-7 drive and any other
second drive require a minimum of 2500 Joules surge
suppression circuit on the AC input line.
For Scalar i80 libraries, if you are using LTO-7 drives, you
can use a maximum of 3 drives. This maximum applies even
if you are using other drives in combination with the LTO-7
drive, such as using a combination of LTO-7, LTO-6, and
LTO-5 drives.
Tape drives are installed into tape drive slots in the rear of the library. If a
tape drive slot is empty, a filler plate must cover the empty slot (see
Figure 5
on page 11).
Caution: Filler plates are required to maintain proper library cooling.
Do not run the library with uncovered slots.
SAS tape drives have one status LED. Fibre Channel tape drives contain a
status and a link LED. For more information on tape drive LEDs, see
Drive/Sled LEDs
on page 260.
All tape drives contain only one cable connector.
For information on removing and replacing tape drives, see
Scalar i40 and Scalar i80: Tape Drives Replacement
Note: IBM drives must not be added to the library until firmware
version i7.2 (180G) is installed. You must install library firmware
version 180G before installing an IBM drive. After installing the
drive, you must update the tape drive firmware using the

softwareanddocumentationdownloads/ si40/index.aspx
1. Click the Firmware tab to access the tape drive firmware file.
2. Click the Documentation tab to access the

If the IBM drive is installed before the 180G library firmware is
installed, remove the IBM drive, reboot the library, and install
the 180G library firmware before re-installing the IBM drive. Be
sure to follow the instructions provided.
