Cautions and Limitations

This section explains the precautions to be observed in operating the machine, and
limitations on its use.
Direct Fax
• Transmission by Direct Fax uses an image enlargement rate of 102% at the
transmission stage. Therefore, when the document is printed out by the recipient,
the image may be reduced in size, or split across multiple pages.
• When a document larger than A3 size is sent, the portion beyond A3 size will be cut
off.
• Select transmission quality to support the abilities of the receiving fax machine. For
example, if the recipient fax machine cannot handle resolutions other than 200 dpi,
setting the transmission quality to 400 dpi will result in sampling on transmission,
which will degrade image quality. In such cases, sending at 200 dpi will yield better
image quality than sending at 400 dpi.
• For the instruction of whether or not to attach a Send Header, the instruction from
Direct Fax is prioritized over that from the machine itself.
• When the document is sent using Direct Fax, it is not possible to check from the
computer whether the transmission was completed correctly. Therefore, print out
the Sent Report to check the transmission result. For how to print out the Sent
Report, refer to Report/List (Non-print Jobs) in the Product Overview chapter on
page 42.
• When the document was sent using Direct Fax, it may not have been sent correctly,
even if there is no error listed in the Job History Report. Therefore, use the Sent
Report to confirm transmission. For how to print out the Sent Report, refer to Report/
List (Non-print Jobs) in the Product Overview chapter on page 42. Even if the
Received Report is used to check from the computer whether a Direct Fax has been
received, it is still necessary to check from the Sent Report to make sure that it was
sent correctly.
• If the destination was specified using Speed Dial, check that the registered fax
number is correct before sending. Even if Speed Dial codes registered on the
machine have been deleted or altered, the computer is unaware of the change.
Therefore, no error will be issued if a Speed Dial code is specified that has been
deleted from the machine. The content of the registered Speed Dial Codes can be
checked from the list of Address Book. For how to print out the list of Address Book,
refer to Report/List (Non-print Jobs) in the Product Overview chapter on page 42.
• Up to 50 recipients can be specified for fax broadcasting under Direct Fax. However,
only up to 12 recipients can be specified by entering the fax numbers.
