Testing the Fusible Link Harness
Electrical System: Testing the Electrical Components
The Field Pro 6040 machine uses a fusible link for circuit protection. The fusible
link is located in a harness that connects the battery positive cable (at the starter
B+ terminal) to the machine wire harness. If the link fails, current to the hour
meter/controller, key switch, and start relay is interrupted. A fusible link harness
failure will render the machine control and charge circuits powerless; refer to
Appendix A (page A–1)
1. Park the machine on a level surface, lower any attachments to the ground,
engage the parking brake, set the key switch to the O
the key from the key switch.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal, and then
disconnect the positive cable from the battery; refer to
Installing the Battery (page
3. Locate and unplug the fusible link connector from the machine wire harness
(right side of engine). Check the harness connectors for damage or corrosion
and clean or repair if necessary.
4. Use a multimeter to ensure that the continuity exists across the fusible link
harness connector and the fusible link harness ring terminal. Replace the
fusible link harness if necessary.
5. After you complete the testing, ensure that the fusible link harness connectors
are correctly attached to the starter and machine wire harness.
6. Connect the positive battery cable to the (+) battery terminal and then
connect the negative cable to the battery. Coat the battery cable connectors
and the fusible link ring terminal with battery terminal protector; refer to
Battery Terminal Protector (page
