Removing the Piston (Traction) Pump
Installing the Piston (Traction) Pump
Hydraulic System: Service and Repairs
Refer to
Figure 47
for this procedure.
1. Remove the pump drive belt; refer to the traction unit Operator's Manual.
2. Remove the belt shield.
3. Loosen the set screws and remove the hydraulic pump pulley. Retrieve the
key from the pump shaft.
4. Remove the fasteners securing the traction control rod to the pump arm.
5. Drain the hydraulic reservoir; refer to the traction unit Operator's Manual.
6. Read and adhere to the information provided in
Removing and Installing the Hydraulic System Components (page
7. Clean the area around the hydraulic hose and fitting connections then
disconnect or remove the hydraulic hoses from the piston pump (and the gear
pump for left side pump removal). Cap or plug the disconnected hydraulic
hoses and fittings to prevent hydraulic system contamination.
8. Support the pump assembly and remove the fasteners securing the pump
assembly to the machine. Carefully remove the pump assembly from the
machine.
9. If necessary, separate the gear pump from the left side piston pump. Locate
and discard the O-ring between the pumps.
10. If necessary, remove the pump arm from the pump.
11. If necessary, remove the hydraulic fittings from the pump. Record the
locations and orientations of the fittings for assembly purposes.
12. Remove and discard all the O-rings from the hydraulic tubes, and fittings
that were disconnected or removed.
Refer to
Figure 47
for this procedure.
1. Lubricate new O-rings and place them onto the fittings. If previously
removed, install the fittings into the pump ports. Tighten the hydraulic fittings
to the torque values specified in
Thread O-Ring Fittings) (page
2. If the gear pump was removed from the left side piston pump:
A. Apply clean petroleum jelly or light grease to a new O-ring and position
the O-ring onto the gear pump flange.
B. Align the gear pump shaft and slide the gear pump into the traction pump
coupler.
C. Secure the gear pump to the piston pump with the previously removed
fasteners.
3.
If previously removed, install the pump arm to the pump.
4. Carefully fit the pump assembly into the frame and secure the pump to the
machine with the previously removed fasteners.
5. Remove the caps and plugs from the hydraulic fittings and hydraulic hoses
then install the hydraulic hoses; refer to
(O-Ring Face Seal Fitting) (page
Note: Install the lower hydraulic tubes first, then fill the piston pump housing
with clean hydraulic fluid before installing the remaining hydraulic tubes.
6. Secure the traction control rod to the pump arm with the previously removed
fasteners.
7. Install the hydraulic pump pulley:
