Hydraulic System: Service and Repairs

1.
Marker line
Avoid distorting any pump components when clamping gear pump
in a vise. Use a vise with soft jaws.
3. Secure the front cover of the pump in a vise with the drive shaft pointing down.
4. Loosen the four (4) cap screws that secure pump assembly.
5. Remove pump from vise and remove fasteners.
6. Support the pump assembly and gently tap the pump housing with a soft
face hammer to loosen the pump section. Be careful to not drop parts or
disengage the gear mesh.
Mark the relative positions of the gear teeth to the thrust plates so
they can be assembled in the same position. Before removing the
gear set, apply marking dye to mating teeth to retain "timing". Pump
efficiency may be affected if the teeth are not installed in the same
position during assembly. Do not touch the gear surfaces as residue
on hands may be corrosive to gear finish.
7. Remove the thrust plates, seals and gears from the pump section.
Make sure to not damage the front cover counter bore when
removing the seal from the cover.
8. Carefully remove the retaining ring and shaft seal from the front cover.
Discard the removed seal.
9. Clean all parts. Check all components for burrs, scoring, nicks and other
damage.
10. Replace the entire pump assembly if any pump components are excessively
worn or scored.
