Installing the Pump Drive Belt Tensioner

Be careful when removing or installing tensioner torsion spring. The
spring is under heavy load and may cause personal injury.
A. Secure the tensioner mount plate in a vise.
B. Use a 3/8" or 1/2" square drive tool to move the tensioner arm away
from the stop bolt.
C. Remove the stop bolt and nut from the mount plate.
D. Release the tensioner arm.
E. Continue to disassemble the tensioner as necessary.

for this procedure.
1. Assemble the belt tensioner:
Be careful when removing or installing tensioner torsion spring. The
spring is under heavy load and may cause personal injury.
A. Assemble the tensioner arm and pulley. Tighten the flange nuts from 43
to 51 N∙m (32 to 38 ft-lb).
B. Secure the tensioner mount plate in a vise.
C. Use a 3/8" or 1/2" square drive tool to move the tensioner arm away
from the stop bolt.
D. Secure the stop bolt and nut to the mount plate. Tighten the flange nut
from 43 to 51 N∙m (32 to 38 ft-lb).
E. Release the tensioner arm.
2. Apply medium strength thread locking compound (Loctite 243 or equivalent)
to the previously removed fasteners and secure the tensioner assembly
and muffler bracket to the engine. Tighten the fasteners from 43 to 51 N∙m
(32 to 38 ft-lb).
3. Install the engine pulley:
A. Clean the engine output shaft and apply a this coating of anti-seize
lubricant to the shaft.
B. Fit the square key to the output shaft and install the pulley with the hub
outward.
C. Use a straight edge to align the engine pulley with the hydraulic pump
pulleys.
D. Apply medium strength thread locking compound (Loctite 243 or
equivalent) to the set screws and secure the engine pulley to the output
shaft. Tighten the set screws from 15 to 20 N∙m (136 to 184 in-lb).
4. Install the exhaust system; refer to
4–17).
