Adjusting the Traction Speed

Field Pro® 6040

Each rear wheel must rotate at the same speed for the vehicle to track in a
straight line. Adjusting the traction speed should only be necessary if one of
the hydraulic pumps, wheel motors, or parts of the traction control assembly is
repaired or replaced. Adjust the right hand control first, then set the left hand
control to match.
Special Equipment Required:
Non-contact tachometer (phototach)

1. Raise the rear wheels off the ground; refer to
2. Remove the hood and lower the operator's cushion.
3. Start the engine and set the throttle control to full speed. Use a non-contact
tachometer (phototach) to verify the engine RPM; refer to
Specifications (page
Use caution when performing this procedure. The traction unit
wheels will be rotating during the procedure.
4. Move both traction control levers to the full F
hydraulic system to warm for at least one minute.
5. Ensure that each traction control lever returns to the N
each wheel stops rotating when released.
Note: If the traction control linkage returns to the N
the wheel continues to rotate, adjust the return to neutral mechanism on
the pump; refer to Return to Neutral Setting in the
Hydrostatic Pumps Service and Repair
6. Use a non-contact tachometer (phototach) to verify the rear wheel speed.
Each rear wheel should rotate at 160 RPM.
7. Stop the engine.
8. To adjust the traction speed:
A. Loosen the upper and lower jam nuts on the right hand control rod.
Note: The lower jam nut has left hand threads.
