Installing the Exhaust System

5. Remove and discard the exhaust gaskets. Remove any remaining gasket
material or debris from the header flanges and the engine sealing surfaces.
Refer to
Figure 13
for this procedure.
1. Loosen the top 2 fasteners securing the muffler bracket and tensioner
assembly to the engine.
2. If previously separated, fit the muffler clamps and headers to the muffler
loosely.
Ensure that there is no preload (binding) between the muffler and
the headers before tightening the fasteners securing the headers
to the engine.
3. Using new exhaust gaskets, install the muffler assembly to the engine and
tighten the fasteners at the header flange.
4. Secure the muffler to the muffler bracket with the previously removed
fasteners. Tighten the fasteners finger-tight only at this time.
5. Tighten the top 2 fasteners securing the muffler bracket and tensioner
assembly to the engine from 43 to 51 N·m (32 to 38 ft-lb).
6. Tighten the fasteners Securing the muffler to the muffler bracket from 28
to 33 N·m (21 to 25 ft-lb).
7. Tighten the muffler clamps.
8. Operate the engine, and check for exhaust leaks before returning the
machine to service.
