Update Restrictions
The update to FW12437x Version 4.0.X from an earlier version is a one-
way update path. Once an update to 4.0.1 (or higher) is completed, it is
no longer possible to revert to earlier versions – if you attempt to
update the firmware to an earlier version, the modem will detect this
and disallow it as a protective measure.
The one-way update effect is necessary because reallocation of internal
memory for additional space has resulted in an incompatibility between
Firmware Ver. 4.0.1 and all earlier versions.
If you are updating your modem from Firmware Version 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 or
later, you may proceed to the Bulk Firmware Update procedure
described in the next chapter section.
Note the following:
• If updating to Firmware Ver. 4.1.1 or later from a firmware version prior
to Firmware Version 4.0.1, you must first update the modem with
Firmware Version 4.0.1 in both images before you can update the modem
to run Firmware Version 4.1.1.
With the modem running pre-FW Ver. 4.1.1 in both images, do these
steps:
1. Update the first image with Firmware Version 4.0.1.
2. Switch images.
3. Reboot the modem.
4. Update the opposite image with Firmware Version 4.0.1.
5. Reboot the modem.
6. Switch images.
7. Reboot the modem once again.
8. Proceed with the Firmware Version 4.1.1 update.
• If you are running FW Ver. 4.1.1 or later and you intend to update your
modem to a firmware version that is earlier than Firmware Version 4.1.1,
do these steps to downgrade:
