Configuring User Names and Passwords

Management access to the Web and CLI interface on the access point is controlled through user
names and passwords. Each user account has an associated access level; either Admin or Read-
Only. A Read-Only user has only read access to the management interfaces. However, an Admin
user has write access for all parameters governing the access point. The default Admin user name is
"admin" with the password "admin." Up to 32 user accounts can be configured; 16 Admin users and
16 Read-Only users.
To protect access to the management interface, you need to configure a new Admin user name and
password as soon as possible. If a new Admin user name and password is not configured, then
anyone having access to the access point may be able to compromise access point and network
security. Once a new Admin user has been configured, the default "admin" user name can be
deleted from the system.
You can also gain additional access security by using control filters (see "Bridging and Traffic Filter
Settings" on page 17-1).
Note: Pressing the Reset button on the back of the access point for more than five seconds resets
user accounts to the factory defaults. For this reason, it is recommended that you protect the access
point from physical access by unauthorized persons.
