On the PA-24-X10 and PA-24-250. fresh air enters the engine compartment
through the upper portion ot
the nose co ling. passes o\er the engine and is vented to the heater muff through a flexible hose located on the
baffling at the rear of the engine On the PA-24-260 and PA-24-400. air enters through the looer portion of
nose co I and is directed through flexible hoses to the muffler shroud The air is then heated and \ented into
the cabin area through a \al\e
which can be controlled from the instrument

is located at the top of the nose

Fresh air for earl\ PA-24-18O and PA-24-250 models is supplied to the cabin b\ adiustable \cntilators
located beside each seat. and one larger ventilator located under the instrument panel on the lelt side of the
cabin
For the late PA-24-180 and PA-24-250 aircraft. fresh air is supplied b\ entilators located beside each
seat and an air intake located at the top of the fuselage. directing air through imdl idual oxerhead outlets
On the PA-24-260 and PA-24-400. fresh air for the cabin interior is picked up from two air inlets in
the leading edge of each xing The air passes through the xings to the wing root area and isdischarged
into
the cabin near the floor lust forward of the front seats In addition. two fresh air scoops are located on the
dorsal fin These proxide air for two o\erhead
xentilators in the rear seat area and two front seat ventilators
located between the
mindshield posts and the instrument panel
10-3 Heater Maintenance. If the exhaust manifold should become defecti\e. carbon monoxide fumes may
be discharged into the cabin area. therelore it is imperative that the exhaust manimold be inspected regularly
The heater muff must be remoxed in order to inspect the manifold assembly
Check the operation of the
push-pull controls to insure the \al\e doors function properly
When the controls are pulled out the door
should be completelr open to permit full air flow When the controls are pushed in. the valves should close
off all air passage and sent the air into the engine compartment
