Place washer nd selfocking nut (31) on sprocket axle (36). Tighten nut (31) to llow no end
plav while permitting the shaft to roate freely,
from stop to stop. Check the stops to insure a
minimum enpgement of .062 of an inch between the sprocker stop pins (30) and the aileron stop (29) as
shown in Sketch D. Place the bulkhead seal over the large nut (31) at the forward side of the sprocket
bracket.
4. Align holes in sprocket bracket with those in the bulkhead and insall bolts and screw securing
the sprocket bracket to the bulkhead.
. Install and tighten cap bolts in horizontal brace.
NOTE
If an Autopilot roll sero is to be insalled on the forward end of the
square tube shaft forward of the bulkhead, it may be insulled at this
time.
e. To install the control wheel tube (2), proceed as follows:
1.
Lubricate the friction surface of the collars and cable attachment fitting beaings with a light
film of grease (MILG-3278).

After sliding the control column cover (35) onto the control wheel rube (2), inert the tube
through the instrument panel. Slide the control tube into the aft collar (22) and one-half the seal washers
(18). Slide the cable attachment fitting (20) with cable arm forward onto the control tube followed by the
remaining seal washers (18) and forward collar(21). Insert the end of the control tube over the square tube
(3) unil the control tube contacts the roller bearing housing.

If the control wheel tube fius easily over the guide blocks (23), align the cable atachment
fitting and collan as marked and tighten the cap bolts (17).
4. Check hat there is minimum end play in the bearing tolerance (0.003 to 0.013 of an inch),
and that the control tube rotates freely from stop to stop. Inall safety wie (16) in the cap bolts.

Install and tighten screw in control wheel cover (35).
f. To arttch chains to sprocket, use the following procedure:
1. With the control wheels centered wrap the honron

al chains (5 and 7) around sprockers (26
and 27). The horizontal urnbuckles (6) should be centered between right and left sprockets Connect
rumbuckles and tighten to allow no slack. Safety urnbuckles.
2.
With the control wheels sill centered, wrap the vertical chain (13) around its sprocket. The
chain ends should be even with one another. Connect the control chain with the aileron control cables. Set
cable tension per Table VI-I and check riging and adjusment as given in paragraph 5*11. Safety
urnbuckles.
3. Check that the control wheel will roll from scop to stop with no binding.
NOTE
To replace stud assembly in left tube (se Sketch D in Figure 5-1). Place stud (PN23394)
in square rube. align hole in stud with aft hole in square rube and insert roll pin. DnUll

hole through stud using forward hole in square rube as pilot and insert second roll pin.
