Failure of engine to
start
PIPER COMANCHE SERVICE MANUAL
TABLE VIIB-II TROUBLESHOOTING CHART (ENGINE)
Trouble
Cause Remedy
Lack of fuel.
Underpriming
O\erpriming
Incorrect throttle setting
Defective spark plugs.
Defective batters.
Improper operation of
magneto breaker points
Air bubbles in fuel system
Fuel pump failure
Fuel line restricted
Lack of sufficient fuel
pressure
Internal failure
Clogged injector nozzles
Defective ignition wire.
Check fuel system for leaks
Fill fuel tank. Clean
dirty lines. strainer or
fuel cocks
Prime by holding boost pump
switch 4 to 10 seconds
Place control in "idle-cut-
off " Open throttle and
unload engine b\ turning
over with starter
Open throttle to 1 8 of its
range.
Clean and adjust or replace
spark plug or plugs
Replace with charged
battery
Clean points Check internal
timing of magnetos
Check fuel ent
Replace pump
Check inlet line
Check fuel strainer and fuel
adjustments
Check oil sump strainer for
metal panicles. If found.
complete overhaul of the
engine may be required
Remoe from cylinders. clean
in acetone solvent. blow
through the inlector nozzle
opposite direction of fuel
flow with compressed air.
100 psi.
Check with electric tester.
and replace any defective
wires.
