5-4. Stndard Procedure The following tips may be helpful in the removal and inarllaion of the various
asemblies.
a. It is recommended, though not always necesary, to level and place the airplane on jacks during
riggng
and adjustment.
b. Remove turnbuckle brrels from cable ends before withdrawing cables through structures
c. Tie a cord to cable end before drawing cable through structures to facilitate cable reinstllation.
d. Turnbuckle lations are given at neutral position.
e. When referring to marking cable ends, etc., before disconnecting, a felt inker may be used.
f.
When urnbuckles have been set co correct cable tension, no more than three threads should be
exposed from either end of the rarnbuckle brrel.
g. Cable tensions should be taken with the appropriate surface and trim control in in neutral
poiion.
h. For the purpose of changing the lateral trim a fixed tab is provided on aileron(s) which can be
adjusted as necessary.

When instlling rod end jam nur, refer ro Figure 5-la for proper inaullaion method.
5-5. Control Column Assembly.
5-6. Removal Of Control Column Assembly. (Refer to Figure 5-1.)
a. To remove either of the control whees (1 and 10) with tube (2), proceed as follows:
1. Maur the roller ssembly (B) cable artachment firtng (20) and collars fore (21) and aft (22) in
reference to their posirions around the control wheel tube.
2.
Cut the wire (16) thu safeties the cap bolts (17) that secure the roller assembly and collars to
the control rube. Remove the cap bolts.
3. Slide the control tube from the roller assembly, cable attachment fitting and collars and draw
the rube from the inmrument panel. Note the number of seal washers (18) between the cable fiting and
collars.
b. The square tube (3) asembly may be removed by the following procedure:
1. Disconnect one turnbuckle (6) of the horizontal control chains (5 and 7) and unwrap chain.
2. Separate the verrical control chain (13) from the aileron control cables by disconnecting one
of the connecting curnbuckles and unwrap chain from sprocket
3. From the honzontal brace between the left and right sprocket brackets (4 and 8), remove
three cap bolts and loosen the fourth lowering the brace slighdy to allow withdrawal of the sprocket
bracket.
4.
Remove bolts and screw holding the sprocket bracket to the bulkhead.
5. Withdraw the square tube assembly.
NOTE
If an Autopilot roll servo is installed m the forward end of the square
rube shaft forward of the bulkhead, it must be removed from the shaft
prior to withdrawing the square tube.
