2-16. Locdin Ahrplne. The cabin and baggage doors ae provided with a key lock. The same key can be
used to operare both door lock.
2-17. Towing. The airplane may be moved by using the nose wheel towing/steering br provided, or power
equipment rhar will not damage or cue
excess strain to the noe gear usembly. On PA-24-180, 250 and
260 aircraft with Serial Numben 244000 to 244246, 244248 to 24-4299 and PA-24400 the steering bar
is stowed on the underside of the hahahdf in the bgage
compartmet. On PA-24-260 Serial Numben
24-4247, 24-4299 and up it is Iached to the forward secoon of the main spar cover.
CAUTION
When towing with power equipment. do not mun the nose gear beyond
in 20 degree in either direction from center, s this will reslt in
damage to the nose gar and steering mechaimn.
2-18. Taxing. Before attemping to taxi the airplane, ground penonnd should be checked out by a
qualified pilot or other responible peron. Engine staring and hut-down procedures should be covered as
wel. When it is ascertined that the propeller back blat and taxi aues are clear, apply power o sart the
taxi roll and perform the following checks:
a. Taxi forward a few fee and apply brakes to deermine their effectveaes
b. Taxi with propeller se in low pitch. high RPM setting.
c. While taxiing, make slight ns to cerain the effectiveness of steeing.
d.
Oberve wing clearances when taxiing near buildings or other stationary objects. If possible, station
a guide ounide the airplane to obsnv
e.
When taxiing on uneven ground look for holes and ruts.
£ Donot operze the engine a high RPM when running up or taxng over ground containing loos
sones, gravel or any loose material tha may cuse damage to propeler blades.
2-19. External Power Receptacle.
2-20. Openaion of Exernal Power Recepble.
The external power receptacle on PA-24-180, 250 and 260
airplanes with Serial Numbers 24-2299 to 244246 inclusive, 24-4248 to 244299 inclusive and PA-24-400
Serial Number 26-2 and up, is located on the righr side of the fuselage aft of staion 157. On PA-24-260
airplane with Serial Number 244247, 244300 to 244804 and up, it is located on the right side of the
engine nacelle just forward of the firewall. When using the external power receptacle for strring or
operaion of any arplane equipment, place the master switch in the OFF position before insering or
removing the power plug. The power connector plug asembly is stored in the baggage comparnment
