9-110. Troubleshooting Procedure For Anti-Colliion And Wing Tip Sobe
Light Systems. The strobe
light assembly functions as a condenser discharge syern. A condenser in the power supply is charged to
approximately 450 voltr D.C. then discharged acroo the Xenon flash tube at intervals approxuately 45
flashes per minute. The condenser is parallel across the Xenon flash tube which is designed to hold off the
450 volts D.C applied until the flash tube is triggered by an eternal pule. This pulse is generated by a
solid state timing circuit m the power upply.
When troubleshootng the scrobe light system, it must firt be determined if the trouble is in the flash
tube or the power supply. Replacement of the flash tube will confirm if the tube i defective. A normal
opertnng power rystem will emit an audible tone of I to 1.5 KHC If there is no sound emitted check the
system according to the following instrucons. When rroubleshooting the system utilize the appropriate
schematic in the manual.
a. Ascetau the input voltage at the power supply is 12 volts.
CAUTION
When disconnecting and connecting the power spply input connections
do not get the connection revened. Reversed polarity of the input
voltage for just an instnt will permanently damage the power supply.
The revered polarity destroys
protective diode in the power supply,
causing self-desruction from overheating of the power supply. This
damage is sometmes not immediately apparent, but will cause failure of
the system in time.
b. Check for malfunction in inerconnecting cables.
1. Ascertin pins I and 3 of interconnecting cable are nor reversed.
2. Using an ohmmeter check continuity between pm I and 3 of interconnecting cable. If you
obtain a reading on the meter the cable is shorted and should be replaced.
