The HMC is not required if the system resources are not to be divided among multiple logical partitions.
When booted in the traditional "full system partition", the system console may be a serially attached TTY
terminal or a display attached to the system. Even if the HMC is attached, you may choose to boot a "full
system partition". With the HMC attached and the system booted into a "full system partition", defined
profiles of logical partitions are unavailable.
Note: When attempting to service the pSeries 650, be sure to determine where the system console
resides.

Internal Disk Drives

The disk drive bay can have up to four disk drives on a single SCSI bus using a four-position disk drive
backplane. If desired, the disk drive backplane can be ordered to allow a split configuration. With the split
disk drive backplane installed, the two halves of the disk drive backplane are each on their own SCSI bus.
The following illustration shows the SCSI bus path for the four-position disk drive backplane.
