System Backplane
This procedure is for removing and replacing the system board.
Removal
To replace a system backplane, do the following:
1. Turn off power as described in "Powering Off and Powering On the System" on page 545.
2. Perform the removal procedures under "Service Processor/PCI Backplane" on page 619.
3. Remove the screws that hold the processor bus connectors (if present), and lift it out of the system.
4. Remove all the screws that hold the system backplane.
5. Lift the system backplane out of the system.
Replacement
To replace a system backplane, do the following:
1. Inspect the new system backplane for damage.
Attention:
In the next step the flex cable is disconnected and reconnected. The flex cable
connectors and handles are fragile. Use extreme care when using the handle to disconnect or
reconnect either connector of the flex cable.
2. Move the flex cable from the old system backplane to the new system backplane.
3. Taking care not to hit the connectors against the processor subsystem chassis, use both hands to
carefully place the system board down into the processor subsystem drawer, then slide the backplane
against the rear bulkhead.
4. Replace the screws used to hold the backplane in the processor subsystem.
5. Place the processor bus connector in position in the subsystem and fasten it in the bottom of the
processor subsystem with screws.
6. Perform the replacement procedures under "Service Processor/PCI Backplane" on page 619.
7. Turn on the power as described in "Powering Off and Powering On the System" on page 545.
8. Reboot the system.
