Processor Subsystem Top Covers
If you plan to remove the covers from the top of the processor subsystem for a service procedure, you can
loosen the covers when the processor subsystem is in the operating position, and then remove the covers
when the processor subsystem is in the service position. If you need to remove the top covers to access
areas of the subsystem other than the top of the PCI adapter area, remove both the PCI adapter cover
and the processor access cover.
PCI Adapter Cover
The battery can be accessed when the PCI adapter cover is removed. Use the following procedures to
remove and replace the PCI adapter cover.
Note: Because the system uses the PCI adapter cassette for hot-plugging procedures, removing the PCI
adapter cover from the processor subsystem is not required to perform removal and replacement of
a PCI adapter.
Removal
1. Loosen the captive thumbscrews that attach the PCI adapter cover to the rear of the processor
subsystem drawer.
Note: If you need to remove both of the top covers, also loosen the captive thumbscrews that attach
the processor access cover.
2. Pull the processor subsystem drawer into the service position; see "Service Position" on page 548.
3. Pull the PCI adapter cover to the rear until it stops and then lift it straight up and off the processor
subsystem.
Replacement
Reverse the steps performed for the removal procedure.
Processor Access Cover
Use the following procedures to remove and replace the processor access cover.
Note: When the processor access cover is installed, it engages the top cover interlock switch . When
replacing the processor access cover, ensure that the cover is securely fastened by the
thumbscrews in the rear of the processor subsystem chassis. If the interlock switch is not engaged,
the system generates an error code of 1011 1511.
Removal
1. Loosen the captive thumbscrews at the rear of the processor subsystem drawer.
2. Pull the processor subsystem drawer into the service position; see "Service Position" on page 548.
3. Slide the cover to the rear until it stops and then lift it straight up and off the processor subsystem.
Replacement
Reverse the removal procedure.
Internal Processor EMC Cover
Use the following procedures to remove and replace the EMC cover that is over the processor section of
the processor subsystem drawer.
Removal
1. Perform the top cover removal procedure; see "PCI Adapter Cover."
2. Pull up on all the push-button snaps to release the processor card EMC cover.
