Corrective action for xxxx 3212: The Network Interface Controller (NIC) hardware component does not
support HSL OptiConnect. The FRU containing the NIC component must be upgraded to a level that
supports HSL OptiConnect. The Service Action Log will call out the correct FRU to replace. If you do not
have the service action log available then follow this procedure to determine which FRU to replace:
1. Determine the model of the system. If the system is a Model 270, then you must also determine the
processor feature code in characters 5 through 8 of function 20 on the control panel.
2. Use the FRU locations and failing components table links for the model of the system you are working
on.
v For Model 270 record the processor feature code (characters 5 through 8 of function 20 on the

feature code.

3. In the FRU locations and failing components table, locate the Network Interface Controller (NIC)
component in the column labeled Possible failing components. Use the service information in that row
of the table to determine the FRU position, FRU name, CCIN, and remove and replace procedure for
the FRU containing the NIC.

A status indication for a high speed link (HSL) loop is identified in the system reference code (SRC). The
status may require a service action. The rightmost four characters of word 4 in the SRC form the program
return code (PRC), which indicates the HSL status. The leftmost four characters of word 7 in the SRC
indicate the HSL loop number in hexadecimal format.
