Managing the twinaxial console Learn how the twinaxial console uses a command-line interface to access and manage the IBM i5/OS operating system without the need for a PC to act as a console. You can use a twinaxial console to manage i5/OS in a partitioned or nonpartitioned environment, which includes a single partition system.

Figure 2 shows a twinaxial console, server, and HMC in this environment. In this example, the twinaxial console is directly connected to an i5/OS logical partition over a twinaxial cable. The HMC is connected to the server firmware over a private network. For more information about moving to a private network, see Moving the managed system from an open network to a private network.
