    Managing the twinaxial console Learn how the twinaxial console uses a command-line interface to access and manage the IBM i5/OS operating system without the need for a PC to act as a console. You can use a twinaxial console to manage i5/OS in a partitioned or nonpartitioned environment, which includes a single partition system.

  • Page 15 Figure 2 shows a twinaxial console, server, and HMC in this environment. In this example, the twinaxial console is directly connected to an i5/OS logical partition over a twinaxial cable. The HMC is connected to the server firmware over a private network. For more information about moving to a private network, see Moving the managed system from an open network to a private network.

    Electrical voltage and current from power, telephone, and communication cables are hazardous. To avoid a shock hazard: v Connect power to this unit only with the IBM provided power cord. Do not use the IBM provided power cord for any other product.
  • Page 17 Observe the following precautions when working on or around your IT rack system: v Heavy equipment–personal injury or equipment damage might result if mishandled. v Always lower the leveling pads on the rack cabinet. v Always install stabilizer brackets on the rack cabinet. v To avoid hazardous conditions due to uneven mechanical loading, always install the heaviest devices in the bottom of the rack cabinet.
