The following guidelines should make you aware of potential
issues, but cannot possibly take the place of your knowledge and
experience in administering your own network. Use them as a
starting point from which to develop your own installation plan.

Notify Users

Whether you are upgrading an existing system or installing a new
one, you want to limit the inconvenience to users. You should
provide advance notification that walk-up functions and network
printing will be disabled temporarily. We also recommend
installing or upgrading your system during non-peak hours to
minimize the impact on network traffic.

Consider Network Protocol Limitations

The following sections outline the various configuration options
the ipc1-im8130 supports as well as any limitations you may
encounter.

Considerations and Limitations
• Required to manage the device using Printer Utility.
• Required for LPD printing.
• If you will be using DHCP for IP address acquisition, which
may assign different IP addresses to the ipc1-im8130, consider
setting up WINS servers for host name resolution.
• Running the ipc1-im8130 as a print server in a Novell environ-
ment over IP is not supported. However, you can use the con-
troller as a printer agent if you have set up NDPS printing.
• Running the ipc1-im8130 as a print server in a Novell environ-
ment is supported only over IPX/SPX. NetWare 5.x and 6.x
default to TCP/IP.
• The frame type is set to Auto Sense by default. To optimize the
ipc1-im8130 for your network, you may want to set the frame
type yourself, which you can do locally from the copier's con-
trol panel, or remotely using Printer Utility.
